March 2nd, 2011Russian olive eradication
December 7th, 2010From Yellowstone Public Radio (ypr.org)The Montana Department of Agriculture this Fall placed Russian Olives on the list of regulated plants in Montana. The designation means the tree can’t legally be sold or planted in the state. Some states, including Wyoming, take a tougher stand and lave listed Russian Olives a noxious weed. As Jackie Yamanaka reports, work is underway to eradicate the non-native plant, especially in riprarian areas, and restore the native vegetation for the benefit of wildlife and livestock.

October 25th, 2010“With the generous help of Shrimpdaddy (and his dog), a couple of us old geezers from the Yellowstone River Conservation District Council got the warning sign above the Cartersville Dam installed. This is one of six signs that are being placed above dangerous dams to help floaters and boaters know they are approaching a dam. The signs are funded by the MT DNRC and FWP. The other dams are at Huntley, Waco, Rancher (Bighorn), Hysham and Intake.”
